About the museum
The Montevecchio mine, in the territory of Guspini, is one of Sardinia’s major historic mining complexes. The first concession was granted in 1848 to Giovanni Antonio Sanna by King Charles Albert, and exploitation of the deposit began precisely in the area of the Pozzo Sant’Antonio, with its houses, stables and ore store.
The Palazzo della Direzione, built between 1869 and 1878 in Liberty and revival style, was the company’s administrative headquarters. The complex also includes workshops for repairing tools, with carpentry, foundry and turning, and the Piccalinna area, where machinery and technical rooms from the second half of the 19th century are preserved around the San Giovanni extraction shaft.
The Galleria Anglosarda is a long underground pedestrian tunnel, dug along the Sant’Antonio vein from 1852 and once traversed by locomotives. Today it can be visited on foot and offers an underground experience in an authentic mining environment. The site is part of the Parco geominerario storico e ambientale della Sardegna and is managed under concession by a local cooperative.
