About the museum
The gallery was founded in the early 1960s on the initiative of the painter Ernesto Ercolani, director of the Pinacoteca civica, with a collection limited to prints: the Civica Galleria d’Arte Grafica Moderna, opened on 18 October 1964 in the 16th-century Palazzo Malaspina. In 1977 it became the Civica Galleria d’Arte Contemporanea, open to all forms of art.
In the late 1990s, alongside paintings by Fontana, Matta, Hartung, Morandi, De Pisis and Severini, forty paintings and thirty-eight drawings by Osvaldo Licini from the collection of Caterina Celi Hellstrom entered the holdings. In 1999 the gallery moved to the former convent of Sant’Agostino and was named after the master from Monte Vidon Corrado, whose entire creative path, from figuration to abstraction, can be followed.
In 2007 the collection was enriched with fifty preparatory drawings made by Tullio Pericoli in 1988 for the decoration of the Sala Garzanti in Milan, lent on deposit by the Fondazione Carisap.
