About the museum
The museum is in Ascoli Piceno, in the monastery of the Mother House of the Pie Operaie dell’Immacolata Concezione, in the former guesthouse where the founder, Francesco Antonio Marcucci (1717–1798), spent the last years of his life. The large monastery was built from 1780, when the first stone of the church of the Immacolata was laid, to designs by the architect Pietro Maggi.
The route, opened in 1993, illustrates the life of Monsignor Marcucci, the founding of the congregation and the construction of the monastery. In the entrance hall is his oil portrait by Nicola Monti of 1770, painted for his appointment as bishop, and a series of twenty small paintings by Dino Ferrari of 1961 that depict the main moments of his life. The display cases show key documents, such as the first Constitutions, printed in Ascoli in 1752, and the Briefs of Pope Pius VI of 1777 and 1780.
The following rooms hold paintings, sacred furnishings, furniture of the Marcucci family, a frescoed chapel and portraits of distinguished nuns. The library also holds valuable manuscripts.
