About the museum
Il Giardino dei Lauri grew out of the passion of the Neapolitan collectors Angela and Massimo Lauro, who since 1990 have assembled a contemporary art collection focused on conceptual art, Neo-Geo, Post Human and American photography. The space is at San Litardo, along the Umbro Casentinese road, in the countryside of Città della Pieve.
The venue is a renovated industrial shed of about 650 square metres, surrounded by greenery. The visitor route crosses the park, where some installations are placed in the landscape, before entering the shed with the works on display. The artists represented include Takashi Murakami, Mariko Mori, Roxy Paine, Michael Heizer and Maurizio Cattelan, and outdoors there is a life-size house made of bread by Urs Fischer.
The space is run by a non-profit association that adds to the collection through new acquisitions and commissions from living artists, and promotes projects, performances, residencies and events.
