About the museum
The building that houses the Imago Museum was constructed in 1933 as the head office of the Direzione generale del Banco di Napoli and is an example of Italian Rationalism. In 2013 it was bought by the Fondazione Pescarabruzzo, which turned it into a museum complex as part of a project to enhance culture and regenerate the urban area.
The museum opened in February 2021, after restoration work, and has about 1,200 square metres of exhibition space. It holds Italian and foreign works from the 20th and 21st centuries.
The four permanent collections comprise the Scandinavian Impressionists linked to Abruzzo, the Die Brücke group and German Expressionism, a core of twentieth-century figurative works donated by Alfredo and Teresita Paglione, and a retrospective devoted to Mario Schifano. The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions.
