About the museum
The K.u.K. Museum Bad Egart occupies the former spa establishment of Bad Egart, at Töll near Parcines, considered the oldest healing bath in Tyrol. Its water is documented as early as 1430, but use of the spring may go back to Roman times: the Via Claudia Augusta passed above Töll, and a Roman customs station stood here. The name recalls the nymph Egeria.
The collector Onkel Taa (Cav. Karl Platino) transformed the old bath into an exhibition space after more than fifty years of collecting. The first two rooms are devoted to the history of the Habsburgs, with personal objects of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth (Sissi) and rarities relating to other members of the dynasty, up to Emperor Charles I.
The route includes a Biedermeier kitchen, a grocery shop of the imperial-royal period, dolls' houses and toys of the 19th century, more than 90 antique display cases with minor arts, Jugendstil, sacred art, Gothic tools, wood sculptures, minerals and fossils, pipes and a shoemaker's workshop. The complex, with more than 35,000 objects, is conceived as a total work of art. A grotto with the healing spring of Egeria can also be visited, and medieval tubs from the bathing culture are on display.
