About the museum
The castle stands on a moraine hill above Cermes, about 6 km from Merano. It was built in the thirteenth century by the lords of Marlengo. The Fuchs von Fuchsberg family took possession of it in 1426 and over the centuries enlarged it, turning it into a fortress surrounded by mighty walls, now preserved only in part. Since 1925 it has belonged to the Dutch van Rossem family.
The visit offers a historical and artistic route from the Middle Ages to the Rococo. The main rooms include the mirror hall with Venetian glass, the knights' hall with the Fuchs family tree, the Napoleonic room with a majolica stove, the peasant rooms and the armoury. The Gothic chapel of Santo Stefano, on three levels, with fine frescoes, also deserves attention.
The castle has inner courtyards and French-style gardens, and can only be visited on guided tours during the opening season.
