About the museum
The Lapidarium is in the municipal gardens of Canosa di Puglia, next to the cathedral of San Sabino, and mainly collects material from the imperial age from the ancient Canusium. The current display, which groups the pieces by type and by commissioner, dates from 2001 and tries to stay as close as possible to the original “romantic” arrangement.
It displays column shafts in white marble, granite and limestone, and important inscriptions that help reconstruct a significant part of the history of the ancient city. The Lapidarium is one of the cultural sites run by the Fondazione archeologica canosina.
