About the museum
The museum was founded in 2003 following the event “Artigiano metropolitano”, organised to commemorate the centenary of the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative Arts held in Turin in 1902. It presents itself as the only Italian institution entirely devoted to this field of the applied arts, and it aims to promote the outstanding craftsmanship of Piedmont.
The seat is the San Filippo Neri complex in the centre of Turin. The rooms are arranged across two galleries: on the first floor the Galleria Soprana houses the permanent collection, opened in 2005, while the ground floor, the Galleria Sottana, has been used for temporary exhibitions since 2006.
The collection includes sculptures, jewellery, tapestries, prints and photographs. Since 2010 the 18th-century altar frontal by Pietro Piffetti from the nearby church of San Filippo Neri has also been on display.
