About the museum
The MIAC – Museo Italiano Audiovisivo e Cinema opened in 2019 in the Cinecittà studios, on Via Tuscolana. The museum, promoted by Istituto Luce-Cinecittà together with Rai Teche and the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, occupies the buildings that once housed the development and printing laboratory, the mechanical workshop and the film store.
The route extends over about 1,650 square metres and is divided into twelve themed spaces: each room addresses a theme, such as actors, history, language, power, music or the masters of cinema, with visual and sound materials and a dedicated immersive installation. Cinema, television and radio are presented through films, archive footage, photographs and interviews.
The route includes the display of recent acquisitions, which form the core of the permanent collection now being built; among them are the photographic series by Anna Di Prospero and the images and video by Vanessa Beecroft produced at Teatro 5.
