About the museum
The castle of Valsinni, once owned by the Morra family, overlooks the Sinni valley and is linked to the life of the Renaissance poet Isabella Morra, who died at just 26, killed by her brothers after they had discovered her secret correspondence with the Spanish baron Diego Sandoval de Castro. The isolation of the place contributed to the melancholy tone of her poems.
Today the castle can be visited. Inside are rooms with frescoes, period furnishings and historical documents about the Morra family and about Isabella. It is the centre of the Parco Letterario “Isabella Morra” (literary park), which celebrates the poet with readings, theatre performances, guided tours and summer events. The panoramic position offers a wide view over the Sinni valley.
