About the museum
The Museo delle Cere is located in Rocca Imperiale, in the upper Ionian area of the Cosenza province, in the former monastery of the Franciscan friars. It displays life-size wax figures of historical personages and recreates events that concerned the town and the surrounding area, including the presence of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia.
The museum is part of the circuit of Frederick II’s castles: the Swabian castle of Rocca Imperiale, which dominates the village, was built from 1221 on Frederick II’s orders to control the Ionian coastal route. The display also includes marine fossils and other objects.
