About the museum
The permanent exhibition is devoted exclusively to local majolica finds from Mondaino: mostly fragments of majolica, accompanied by examples of the use of tableware and of the work of potters. In Mondaino, majolica production is documented from the late 15th century to the 17th century, and it reached its peak between the late 16th and the early 17th century.
Among the exhibited materials are kiln waste, such as bisque-fired pieces, second-firing rejects and kiln spacers, which prove production on site. This was concentrated mainly in the second half of the 16th century and the first half of the 17th century. The route also includes a reconstruction of a historic workshop.
Mondaino majolica is known for its lively ochre tone paired with reddish brown, and for motifs ranging from military and religious scenes to love themes, such as love cups with pierced hearts or clasped hands. The museum is part of the Musei di Mondaino, run by the association Tredici Torrioni.
