About the museum

The centre is in Colbordolo, now part of the municipality of Vallefoglia, the home village of the family of Giovanni Santi (1435–1494), painter, poet and father of Raffaello. After the siege by the troops of Federico da Montefeltro in 1446, the family left the castle and moved to Urbino, where Giovanni and later his son were able to come into contact with one of the liveliest courts in Italy.

The exhibition route is documentary and educational. It presents photographic reproductions and enlarged details of Santi's works, placed alongside reproductions by other artists to show the influences on and originality of his painting. The route follows a historical thread and virtually reconstructs the court culture of the 15th century.

The centre also has a restoration workshop and houses a reproduction of the Tempietto delle Muse, linked to the Parco delle Muse e delle Ninfe. The room is also used for temporary exhibitions and cultural events.
