About the museum
The museum was founded in 1992 by Prof. Giovanni Tiberi and is run by the Tiberi family, who own the building and the collection. It is located in Casinina, in the middle Foglia valley, an area that in 1944 was a minefield on the front line of the Gothic Line, the German defensive belt across Italy.
The rooms display thousands of original objects and documents from the battlefields, including uniforms of the warring armies, photographs and military vehicles. The museum also includes a historical archive, a library, a documentation centre on the 20th century and a permanent section on the First World War.
The visit is completed by an outdoor route, the Parco della Memoria (Memory Park), with exhibits and monuments, and at certain times by visits to an original German bunker. The museum has a strong educational focus and welcomes thousands of students every year with workshops based on original documents.
