About the museum
The project to bring relics and documents about the passage of the front together in a museum began in 1990 with the construction of the so-called “Bunker”, today the heart of the museum, on the site of a German observation post of the Second World War at the foot of the castle of Montegridolfo. The main building opened in 2002, and the extension, titled “Due Passi sul Museo” and designed by the architect Luca Signorotti, was inaugurated on 22 August 2017.
The museum holds a rich collection of finds, testimonies and material on the fighting along the Gothic Line, which crossed Montegridolfo, an eastern strongpoint together with Quota 204. Many relics come from residents and former residents of Montegridolfo and the neighbouring municipalities, who kept them for over half a century. The name recalls the original designation “Linea dei Goti” (Goten Linie), given by Hitler.
After the extension the museum has space for photographic exhibitions, an area for consulting original paper material, a conference room and an educational area for schools.
