About the museum
The Mulino di Bottonera is in the Bottonera craft district of Chiavenna. It was founded in 1867 next to the pasta factory started by Carlo Moro and remained in operation for several generations, until the 1960s of the 20th century.
The complex has survived almost intact and was recovered by a group of volunteers, who put in thousands of hours of unpaid work, with the support of local authorities. Today it is a museum occupying three floors, with a system of pulleys, belts and millstones.
The route shows how grain was worked: from cleaning and grinding to the production of flour, semolina and bran.
