About the museum
The original core of the mill dates back at least to the 18th century; the building in its present form dates from 1832. It consists of two adjoining bodies: a tower about seven metres high, through which a pipe runs that narrows towards the bottom, and a second block which houses the turbine room at ground level, the grinding room on the upper level and the miller’s lodging in the attic.
Unlike what usually happens, the mill was not built on the bank of the stream but close to the houses: for this reason the water was brought from the brook to the top of the tower through channels called “beudi”, some of which are still visible. Another special feature is the horizontal water wheel instead of the vertical one, which is better suited to a reduced flow of water.
