About the museum
The museum is housed in an 18th-century house in Favale di Malvaro, in the hinterland of the Tigullio, linked to the family of Amedeo Pietro Giannini, the banker of Ligurian origin who founded Bank of America. Giannini's father came from Favale, while the son was born in San Jose, California.
The building was restored in 1983 and turned into a museum thanks to contributions from the bank founded by Giannini. In 1988 Bank of America donated it to the Comune di Favale di Malvaro.
The rooms preserve original furnishings, information panels and photographs documenting rural life in the past and the departure of Ligurian emigrants for the Americas between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, as well as Giannini's story.
