About the museum
The Museo del Bosco is a permanent exhibition of the Parco naturale regionale dell’Aveto (Aveto Regional Nature Park), dedicated to the forests of the protected area, their ancient and recent history and their future. It was set up a few years after the park took over the management of the regional forests of Lame, Monte Penna and Monte Zatta in 2005.
The museum brings visitors closer to the history of the local woods with artefacts, finds, memorabilia and forestry tools, celebrates the work and identity of the valley people connected to the forest, and explains the forest ecosystem. Displays are also set up outdoors. The park describes it as a unique structure for trying out innovative forestry practices, recovering knowledge from the past and rediscovering wood as an ecological and renewable material.
Since 2017 the museum has been part of the Associazione Nazionale Piccoli Musei (National Association of Small Museums).
