Salt museum of Cervia in the former “Torre” salt warehouse, with the history of the saltworks, an early medieval boat and the tools of the salt workers.
Drawings, poems, nursery rhymes and stories by primary school pupils, arising from meetings with the salt workers, from visits to the museum and from outings to the saltworks, as part of the project “A scuola con i Salinari”.
About the museum
The MUSA is housed in the salt warehouse known as the “Torre” in Cervia, and tells the story of the town and its salt production. The route includes a section on the history of the museum and of Cervia, with archaeological finds from the protohistoric and Roman periods, mosaics, manuscripts and a map of Cervia Vecchia.
Among the most notable objects are an early medieval boat and a traditional boat, the burchiella. The section on salt presents Cervia’s “sale dolce” (sweet salt), the production areas, the watchtowers, the tools of the salt workers and a salt nativity scene.
The museum offers free guided visits (“I salinari raccontano”, “The salt workers tell”), workshops for children and other educational activities; it is one of the sites of the Ecomuseo del sale e del mare di Cervia.
