About the museum
The Spazio Pantani is the museum dedicated to Marco Pantani, the Romagnol cycling champion born in Cesenatico. It was created at the wish of the Pantani family, the municipality of Cesenatico and the Fondazione Marco Pantani, to keep alive the memory of the “Pirata” (the Pirate) and his achievements. It opened to the public in October 2006 and is run directly by the family, with the aim of donating any profits to charitable initiatives.
The building, close to the railway station, covers over 300 square metres and is divided into three rooms named after the climbs made famous by Pantani. The Sala Mortirolo holds customised bicycles, team jerseys, helmets, trophies and photographic material. The Sala Alpe d'Huez houses display cases with trophies and relics, original writings, a small gallery of over twenty paintings made by the champion, a fifty-seat screening room and a video library with films about his life.
The Sala Bocchetta, which opens onto an outdoor terrace, is used mainly in summer for thematic exhibitions, commemorations and events of various kinds. Inside there is also a small shop selling books, clothing and gadgets, the proceeds of which support the Foundation's charitable activities.
