About the museum

The Museo Agorà Orsi Coppini was founded in 2009 by the Coppini family and is devoted to the culture of extra virgin olive oil and the olive tree. It is housed in a carefully restored former 19th-century dairy in the Parma area, a territory traditionally linked to the agri-food industry. The idea of the museum is to celebrate the return of the olive tree to an area traditionally unfamiliar with this crop, and to present oil as a central element of Mediterranean civilisation.

The route includes the spaces dedicated to the history of oil production: a first space presents the ancient wooden presses and the earliest mechanical production systems, a true laboratory of industrial archaeology, while a second is devoted to the iron machines built after the Industrial Revolution, including hydraulic and electric equipment.

The visit includes a guided tasting of extra virgin olive oils, with an introduction to production techniques and advice on pairing oils with food. Inside the museum there is a conference hall of about one hundred seats, and outside an open-air amphitheatre set in an olive grove, with capacity for up to 500 people, for concerts and performances. Sensory workshops are provided for schools of every level.
