About the museum
The museum is located in the rectory of the San Leonardo abbey in Montetiffi, a hamlet of Sogliano al Rubicone, and holds the works of Padre Agostino Venanzio Reali, a Capuchin friar born in Ville di Montetiffi. The works were donated by fellow friars from Bologna, where Reali lived for many years.
The collection includes clay sculptures, sketches and paintings. In a room in the cellar, a small display of painted terracotta baking pans and printed cloths with scenes of local traditions is also set up.
The abbey, one of the most important Romanesque monuments in Romagna, dates from the mid-11th century and passed to the Benedictines in 1089; in 1334 it was reinforced as a military stronghold during the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines. Inside, fragments of 14th- and 15th-century frescoes survive.
