About the museum
The MAP, Museo all'aperto della città di Faenza, is a dispersed museum that takes art out of traditional exhibition spaces and uses the city itself as its place of display. The project was already foreseen in the Structural Plan of 2010 and was established in 2014; it is part of the Museum System of the Province of Ravenna. The realisation was followed step by step by the architect Ennio Nonni, with the contribution of ceramicists and sculptors.
The museum gathers more than 80 works, including sculptures, reliefs, installations, ceramics and murals, placed according to an urban design that covers both the historic centre and the outskirts and craft areas. The works are spread over a wide territory, with some of the furthest several kilometres apart, and for this reason the route also lends itself to being followed by bicycle.
Among the artists represented are Rambelli, Matteucci, Biancini, Spagnulo, Nagasawa, Sottsass, Zauli, Sartelli, Stahler, Bombardieri, Belletti and Gaeta. Also part of the dispersed museum, as linked exhibition venues, are the Museo Internazionale delle Ceramiche, the Pinacoteca comunale, the Museo Carlo Zauli and other sites in the city. The route is free and barrier-free and has no single entrance point.
