About the museum
The museum, opened at the end of 2015, is housed in the Palazzo Arnone in Piazza Umberto I and showcases the antiquities of Sant'Angelo Muxaro, the town that tradition identifies with the Sicanian royal palace of King Kokalos and Kamikos, linked to the myth of Daedalus.
The exhibition presents a selection of the tomb grave goods, dating from the 12th to the 6th century BC, and materials from the surrounding area. The archaeological site is famous for the necropolis on the southern slope, with over two hundred rock-cut chamber and tholos tombs, and for the richest group of gold objects from indigenous Sicily: two heavy rings with an engraved bezel and four phialae, of which only one survives, in the British Museum.
The museum is managed by the Parco archeologico e paesaggistico della Valle dei Templi together with the archaeological area.
