About the museum
The museum occupies the ground floor of the former convent of the Carmelite Fathers, in piazza Carmine, in the centre of Sutera. The route reconstructs rooms typical of late 19th-century homes, with tools and furnishings of the period, and presents the instruments of the trades of former times: craft, farming, medical and veterinary activities.
The rooms include a 19th-century bedroom with a cradle and brazier, ceremonial clothing from the 19th and 20th centuries, and tools for milling, ploughing, ironworking, shoemaking, tailoring, herding and the production of cheese and ricotta. Other sections are dedicated to religious objects, such as the room of a confraternity and a display prepared for Corpus Domini, and to emigration in the early 20th century and after the Second World War. Materials from the First and Second World Wars, postcards and historical photographs of Sutera are also on display, as well as a section on the Magna Via Francigena.
