About the museum
The museum is housed in the cloister of the former Poor Clares convent in Rapallo. The collection was assembled during their lifetime by the couple Attilio and Cleofe Gaffoglio, who kept it in their house, which had become a house museum, and it was donated to the municipality of Rapallo in 2000.
The collections include objects from the 14th to the 20th century: porcelain, ivories, enamels, goldsmiths’ work, sculptures, paintings and furniture. The most significant groups include embossed and chased sacred silverware, scrimshaw and tankards, porcelain figurines largely from the Meissen manufactory, icons from Eastern Europe, two Fabergé pieces from Saint Petersburg – an Easter egg and a frame with a portrait of Tsar Nicholas II – and paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries, mainly landscapes.
