About the museum
The Museo Bellico “Belli Instrumentum” was founded on 27 November 2004 on the initiative of Marshal Giuseppe D’Auria and Carabiniere Giovanni Collura, who wanted to recover, restore and show to the public their collection of weapons and relics. The stated aim is to encourage reflection, remembrance and gratitude towards the nation.
The venue is “I Putieddi”, a late-medieval building in Piazza Fratelli Messina in Barrafranca. The museum is run exclusively by the board of the local branch of the Associazione Nazionale Carabinieri.
The collections include a large group of bladed and firearm weapons, period objects and humble everyday items found in forgotten places, old photographs restored from fragments, a historical and photographic archive, and documentation on the wartime events of June–August 1943. A further section gathers memories of the Arma dei Carabinieri (Carabinieri corps).
