About the museum
The Casa Museo del Contadino was conceived and set up by Mario Albanese, born in Piazza Armerina in 1945, who for about twenty years devoted himself to restoring antique furniture and collecting objects of agro-pastoral culture. In 1993 he began exhibiting what he had gathered in a single room; he later expanded the space until he had reconstructed a typical Sicilian farmhouse of the late 19th century. The museum was opened on 21 January 2014.
The route includes a cellar with farm and hunting tools, a period kitchen with a stone oven and mill, and a bedroom with a straw bed and a hammock for babies, along with memorabilia, work tools, household utensils and antique toys.
