About the museum
The museum is housed in the left wing of the 19th-century Mercato Coperto (covered market), in the central Piazza San Graziano, and holds finds from Arona and the Basso Verbano (lower Lake Maggiore area), from the Bronze Age (17th–13th century BC) to the post-Renaissance period. Among the materials are those from the excavations of Arona’s hospital.
The route includes, among other things, a polished green-stone axe blade from the Neolithic found at Corciago; the grave goods of the Golasecca culture from Castelletto Ticino and the Lagoni area, with intact vases, bronze fibulae, rings, pendants and buckles; and the grave goods of a Celtic necropolis (3rd–1st century BC) discovered at Dormelletto, including the well-known spinning-top vase, bracelets and a rare decorated bronze ankle bracelet.
A 360° virtual tour of the museum is also available.
