About the museum
The Museo Civico Città di Cave was opened on 7 December 2013 and is dedicated to Lorenzo Ferri (1902–1975), sculptor, painter, restorer, scholar of the Holy Shroud and master of art. The artist's plaster works were donated by his heirs to the Comune di Cave.
The museum consists of three sections: one in the former Ospedale Mattei, in Via Cavour, and two in the former Convent of the Augustinians. In the former hospital, spread over three levels, the works are arranged in chronological order to offer a clear and unified route through the artist's activity, with a part devoted to his forty-six years of study of the Holy Shroud. One site in the historic centre is dedicated to the Presepe Monumentale (monumental nativity scene).
