About the museum
The Civic Museum of Amalfi is housed in the Palazzo municipale on Piazza Municipio, in the ancient Benedictine convent of the Santissima Trinità. The square is dominated by the statue of Sant'Andrea, the patron saint of the city.
The rooms tell the story of Amalfi, its maritime republic and its duchy, and hold the preparatory drawings by Domenico Morelli for the mosaic on the façade of the Duomo.
The Tavole amalfitane, the city's maritime code, was formerly displayed in the Town Hall; according to recent sources, the collection has been moved to the Arsenal, which houses the Museo della Bussola e del Ducato marinaro.
