About the museum
The Museo civico di Storia Naturale di Cremona grew out of an original core left by Sigismondo Ala Ponzone (1761–1842), who was a naturalist and preparator before he was a collector; his collection is of the highest quality. Other collections were added in the following years, donated mainly by local naturalists.
The route, in the same complex as the Museo civico “Ala Ponzone” in Via Ugolani Dati, starts with the historical section, made up mainly of the Ala Ponzone core, and continues with the systematic disciplines of mineralogy, palaeontology and zoology, leading to an exploration of the Cremona area. The natural environment, and in particular the urban environment, introduces a reflection on the conservation of biodiversity.
An interdisciplinary education space, available to all sections of the museum system, invites reflection on how people use the resources of the area, in relation to the theme of the river and the city. The museum also houses the Piccola Biblioteca (Little Library), dedicated to children’s books for ages 0 to 13.
