About the museum
The Diocesan Museum of Cremona opened in 2022 in the bishop’s palace, next to the cathedral, and was designed to tell a fundamental part of the history, art and spirituality of the Cremonese area. It is part of the Musei della Diocesi di Cremona system, together with the Tesori della Cattedrale, the Museo verticale del Torrazzo and the Romanesque Battistero (Baptistery).
The exhibition follows thematic rather than chronological criteria, so that visitors can grasp meanings and connections between the works. The collection includes more than a hundred works lent by the parishes of the diocese and some twenty-five works owned by the Fondazione Arvedi Buschini.
In 2025 the museum presented the organ shutters by Altobello Melone, which came from the Pinacoteca di Brera, in the Galleria dei vescovi (Gallery of the Bishops), and hosted the first monographic exhibition dedicated to Boccaccio Boccaccino. It also offers educational activities for schools and families.
