About the museum

The Diano Marina municipal museum is housed in Palazzo del Parco, a building erected around the middle of the 19th century that has changed use several times and also houses the civic library “Angiolo Silvio Novaro”. The municipality bought the palace in March 1965; the library opened in October 1972.

The museum is divided into three sections. The archaeological section, reorganised in 2004 by the Istituto internazionale di studi liguri together with the municipality and the Soprintendenza per i beni archeologici della Liguria (heritage authority for archaeology in Liguria), displays finds from the area between Capo Berta and Capo Cervo across nine rooms, and has a multimedia room. The Risorgimento section, named after Andrea Rossi, a pilot of Garibaldi’s Thousand from Diano, opened to the public in 2007 and was rearranged in 2011 for the 150th anniversary of Italian unification.

The mineral section comprises about 250 specimens, mainly from the De Cavero family, bought by the town in the 1960s. They were displayed in 1971 in a secondary school and moved to Palazzo del Parco in 2005.
