About the museum
The museum area occupies the ground floor of the “Leonardo Lagorio” civic library in Imperia and houses the relocated study and private library of Edmondo De Amicis, who was born in the square that now bears his name, in the building that currently houses the Guardia di Finanza.
The reconstruction recreates the “officina” (workshop), as the writer himself called his study, with the original furnishings: the desk, armchairs and seats, the English mahogany bookcases, windows with cathedral glass joined with tin, portraits and sculptures.
The library, of over 3,000 volumes, includes editions of the book “Cuore” in many translations from around the world. For conservation reasons it is kept in the storage of the Fondo antico (antique collection), together with manuscript papers, sketches and photographs.
