About the museum
The civic museum of Polia is dedicated to the sculptor Fortunato Gaccetta, born in Polia in 1920 and died in Treviso in 2006. His first works were produced at the Scuola artigiana calabrese (Calabrian craft school); after the war he settled in Veneto and Friuli, where he trained under the sculptor Antonio Benetton. His awards include a gold medal in Stockholm in 1964 and the title of Master of Sculpture, conferred by the King of Spain in 1990 for the work “I guerrieri di Spagna” (The Warriors of Spain).
As well as the artist’s works, the building contains a library of around 2,000 volumes and a large conference hall, where cultural events are held.
