About the museum
The museum was founded in 1983 and is housed in the Filanda Massara, a building now owned by the municipality of Monterosso Calabro. It holds tools and implements linked to the agricultural and craft life of the village, with material on rural and artisan work traditions from other areas of Calabria.
The display is organised in thematic sections: peasant art, textiles, terracotta, wood, iron and costume. The museum is twinned with other museums of peasant civilisation, including those in Gaville (Figline Valdarno), Alagna Valsesia, Casore del Monte and Vigo di Fassa. The same Filanda also houses the Museo multimediale delle Serre calabresi.
