About the museum
The Museo multimediale delle Serre calabresi is part of the museum complex “La Filanda” in Monterosso Calabro, housed in a former 19th-century industrial complex rebuilt after the earthquake of 1783; it was first a silk mill and later an oil press. The scientific project is by Rosario Chimirri.
The museum uses digital technology to document the nature and culture of a large area of central and southern Calabria. The route runs through four large rooms, with didactic panels and projections of still and moving images, with and without sound.
The sections cover geography, flora, fauna and nature trails; the territory, urban planning and architecture; society, work and food; dialect, traditional music, the cult of the saints, festivals and rites. The same complex also houses the Museo della civiltà contadina e artigiana della Calabria, founded in 1983 on the initiative of the Pro Loco.
