About the museum
The Museo d’Arte di Chianciano Terme is a private institution founded in 2009 by Roberto Gagliardi. It is housed in a building in the Liberty (Art Nouveau) style, originally built as a villa and later converted into a hotel, renovated to house the museum. The complex covers about 3,000 m² and holds around a thousand works.
The collections range from the Neolithic to contemporary art. The basement is devoted to Asian art, with sculptures and finds from various Chinese dynasties, including a Neolithic terracotta jar of the Banpo culture, dating from around 3000 BC, and the collection of Asian ceramics and porcelain belonging to the Loose family. On the ground floor are contemporary works and a room on Russian realism.
On the first floor drawings are displayed from the 16th century to the modern masters, from Tiepolo and Guercino to Guttuso, while the second floor houses works from royal collections and a print room with engravings by Dürer, Piranesi and Rembrandt. The museum has also hosted the Biennale di Chianciano, which in 2026 ran from 15 to 29 August.
