About the museum
The Museo d’arte sacra “Don Clemente Confalone” is located in the crypt of the Collegiata di Santa Maria a Mare, in Maiori, on the Amalfi Coast (Costiera Amalfitana). The collegiate church was elevated to the rank of Insigne Collegiata (distinguished collegiate church) in 1506 by Pope Giulio II, and its crypt holds the remains of San Clemente.
The collection includes sacred works dating from the 16th to the 18th century. The display, organised into thematic sections, opens with a space devoted to devotional statues, including a Madonna and Child attributed to a German school of the 16th century, and a group of valuable 18th-century works.
Among the most precious pieces are an alabaster polyptych of English manufacture from the 15th century, a group of sacred vestments illustrating the textile art of the 17th to 19th centuries, and a collection of liturgical objects documenting silverwork from the 19th and 20th centuries.
