About the museum
The museum grew out of the passion of Franz-Josef Mairhofer, owner of the Hotel Burgfrieden, who over many years collected firefighters' helmets from different periods and countries. The oldest dates from the Napoleonic era.
The collection occupies about 200 m² in a glass pyramid attached to the hotel, along the road to Valle Aurina. It comprises around 700 helmets in felt, brass, cork, plastic, leather, steel and cardboard, as well as shoulder boards, axes, officers' sabres and some uniforms. Among the pieces stand out the French metal helmets, richly decorated with plumes, and those from Egypt, Thailand, Guatemala and New York.
Every two years a meeting of collectors is held at the hotel. The next is planned for May 2027.
