About the museum
The South Tyrolean provincial museum of customs and folk traditions stands at Teodone, above Brunico, and preserves the memory of the rural, craft and religious life of the South Tyrolean valleys. The heart of the complex is the Mair am Hof residence, a Baroque building constructed between 1690 and 1700 by the von Sternbach family.
The open-air area, reached through a well-kept Baroque garden, comprises more than twenty buildings from the 15th to the 19th century, including farmhouses, rural outbuildings and workshops from various South Tyrolean valleys, moved here and rebuilt. They show how farmers, craftspeople, smallholders and day labourers lived and worked. Meadows with animals, fields, kitchen gardens and old fruit trees complete the setting, with views over Brunico.
The Mair am Hof presents the way of life of the rural nobility and collections of popular religiosity and folk art. The museum belongs to the provincial museums of South Tyrol.

The buildings are under monument protection and some parts are difficult or impossible to access. In the Mair am Hof residence the ground-floor rooms are reachable, but not the upper floors, and there is no lift; in the entrance building a lift leads to accessible toilets. The open-air area can be navigated by wheelchair, but the sloping ground and surface make movement difficult; only some historic buildings are accessible, because of thresholds and narrow passages. The outdoor toilets are also accessible. The museum-inn hall has step-free access. Reserved spaces in the visitor car park.
