About the museum
The museum was founded in 1993 and renovated in 2015. Small but well kept, it has three sections devoted to fossils, minerals and insects, and a library. It offers educational activities and guided tours.
The two rooms present finds that document the area over more than 310 million years, up to about 12,000 years ago. The fossils from Osteno are of particular importance: they belong to species previously unknown to science and are valuable for understanding the evolution of the fauna. The collection also includes pieces from Morocco, Brazil, Arizona, the Val Vigezzo, Monte San Giorgio and Monte Generoso.
