About the museum
The museum was founded in 2006 through the passion of the Agostinelli family and a collection made available by Fabriano entrepreneur Luciano Pellegrini. It began as an exhibition of around thirty bicycles on two floors, open at weekends. In 2008 it found a permanent home at the Galleria delle Arti in via Gioberti, with almost sixty velocipedes including bicycles, tricycles and sidecars, and in 2012 the book “Mestieri in Bicicletta” by Terenzio Baldoni, devoted to the trades represented, was published.
After years of management difficulties the museum closed in March 2020 because of the pandemic. In 2022 Valentino Agostinelli relaunched the project with a small exhibition and with the Associazione A.M.V.S., and on 25 April 2023 the permanent museum officially reopened to the public.
Today it is housed in the former Franciscan convent of San Francesco Vecchio at Porta Cervara, dating from the late 13th century. The bicycles, all original and coming from various regions of Italy, date from the period between the late 1920s and the early 1970s and are spread over several floors, including basement levels. The collection belongs to the Agostinelli family.
