About the museum
The Pinacoteca civica was founded in 1862, when the Comune di Fabriano acquired a first core of works from ecclesiastical bodies suppressed after the unification of Italy. The first display was in the Palazzo Chiavelli, the town hall. Between 1911 and 1913 the Chapter of the Cathedral of San Venanzio ceded a large group of works, and the collection moved to the episcopal palace.
In 1986 the museum was named after Bruno Molajoli, an art historian from Fabriano. Since 1994 the collection has been housed in the former Spedale di Santa Maria del Buon Gesù, in Piazza Giovanni Paolo II.
The route unfolds over two floors, in rooms arranged by period from the Romanesque to Neoclassicism, and includes the triptych by Allegretto Nuzi, the Dormitio Virginis by Antonio da Fabriano, a series of Flemish tapestries of the 16th and 17th centuries from the Cathedral, and groups of polychrome wooden sculptures of the 14th century. The visit also includes the rooms of the Casa di Ester and the Giardini del Poio.
