About the museum
The collection began as a private collection in 1970 and the museum was officially opened in 1994. It commemorates the village’s main activity, mining, which ended with the closure of the mines in 1980. It is located in Zorzone, a hamlet of Oltre il Colle, in the former elementary school.
On the ground floor a route with panels and tools traces the history of mining from Leonardo da Vinci’s drawing to the closure of the mine, with a life-size reconstruction of the entrance to a gallery. The first floor holds minerals and fossils: alongside specimens from around the world there are local ones such as galena, sphalerite (blende), malachite, smithsonite and wulfenite, with a display case devoted to fluorescent minerals. On the second floor there is a multimedia area with audiovisual material and a meeting room.
