About the museum
The museum tells the story of a border region through two historical themes. The first is emigration, with the story of Felice Pedroni (Felix Pedro), an Italian emigrant who took part in the Alaska gold rush and was one of the founders of Fairbanks, which is twinned with Fanano.
The second is the Gothic Line, the last front of the war in Italy: on Riva Ridge the first battle was fought that broke the line and opened the way to final liberation. On display are objects recovered from the battlefields, excavation finds and objects used in the war, as well as more than thirty panels with biographies of civilians, partisans and soldiers from all sides.
One room is devoted to wartime food shortages, another to the secret agents who linked the Allied armies with the partisans; one panel tells the story of the Jewish Valabrega family and the Andreoni family of Ospitale, recognised as Righteous Among the Nations. The museum describes itself as “the house where the stories of people live”.
