About the museum
The museum was founded in 1976 in Poggiolforato, a hamlet of Lizzano in Belvedere, thanks to Giovanni Carpani’s passion for local history and to donations from craftsmen and residents. It is one of the visitor centres of the Parco regionale del Corno alle Scale.
The collection is divided into five sections: chestnut, the main section, with a reconstruction of the processing cycle from harvest to consumption; crafts, with tools of shoemakers, stonemasons and carpenters; herding; religiosity; and weaving, with tools for carding and spinning and a large loom still in working order.
Next to the museum is the house museum “Le Catinelle”, a mountain farmhouse with original furnishings from the 19th century to the period between the two world wars.
